RLabs Inspires Westridge’s Involvement in Cape Town Tourism

For the past few months, RLabs has been developing a project geared toward fostering inclusivity and diversity in the tourism space. The Westridge Tourism Precinct project is spearheading a transformative approach to tourism in Cape Town. This visionary initiative aims to empower marginalized communities while offering travellers a unique and enriching experience. It focuses on creating environments, services, and opportunities that cater to the diverse needs and preferences of a community that is often overlooked.

The primary objective of the project is to foster community-based hosting opportunities and to gradually develop a diverse range of tourist experiences that will establish the Westridge Tourism Precinct as a sought-after tourist destination. To ensure the success of this project, RLabs is strategically partnering with stakeholders who possess similar interests. Through these collaborations, we have facilitated the establishment of the first Airbnb in the community, providing local accommodation options, and have facilitated the curation of a variety of tourist experiences including the first Art Gallery (RLabs House), night markets, and street tours, that cater to both local and international visitors.

By embracing such initiatives, the project aims to enhance the local economy of the Westridge Tourism Precinct while offering memorable experiences for tourists. Moreso, the Westridge Tourism Precinct recognizes the significance of tourism as an economic driver and seeks to leverage the opportunities available in this sector, to promote a sustainable local economy in Westridge.

The project will seek to facilitate the development of vital infrastructure and experience development within the Westridge area. This simply means that it aims to identify and renovate up to 10 homes within the precinct, list them on accommodation platforms (primarily Airbnb) and make them available to both local and international tourists. It also means aiding the establishment of 20 local tourist experiences.

The expected outcomes will be to increase accessibility to local tourist sites, accommodations, and transportation services. An added outcome would be to enable people with disabilities and other marginalized groups to fully participate in tourism activities around the precinct. It aims to aid the offering of diverse and inclusive experiences that cater to the preferences and needs of a broader range of visitors, resulting in increased visitor satisfaction and longer stays across the board.

One of the main outcomes, as it rightly should be, is especially to create employment opportunities for individuals within this community, which would enhance socio-economic development in the area.

We are about to transform the way Westridge is perceived. We are about to transform the experience of this community and invite the world to visit here. Watch this space!
